Insurance Claims and Fire Damage

Here’s what you should do to prepare for the possibility of fire damage.

I’ve had a few insurance claims in the last few years from hail and wind, but fire is one of the most stressful claims. Someone close to me made a fire claim recently and lost many items in the damage. With a fire claim, the insurance company will want an inventory of everything you’ve lost, which is difficult to provide, especially when you don’t have the receipts or even know what all you had because you’ve been accumulating belongings for decades.

I highly recommend going through your home, garage, tools, storage shed, and anything else you have and taking a video of them so you can send it to the insurance company if you lose items in a fire. I’ve seen people do this a few times in the last couple of years, and the more records you keep, the better. However, ensure the records don’t get burned too. Store your video in the cloud so you can get to it anytime, and save yourself time and energy.

If you have any questions about being prepared for fire damage or concerning real estate in general, call or email me. I would love to help you.
