Fall Maintenance Tips for Homeowners

Learn how to prepare your home for the fall season with these tips.

It’s August, and it certainly feels like fall is upon us. In the real estate market, we call it fall regardless of the exact date. What does that mean for your house? What does that mean for maintenance tips? I feel like in the spring I say it, and I’ll say it again in the fall: check your gutters, clean your gutters, and get the leaves out as they fall.

We’re still getting rain, so it’s crucial to ensure your gutters are clean and that water is properly diverted away from your house. This also means we have different bugs coming out. As harvest starts, you might see more rodents running into houses and different types of spiders appearing. Make sure your pest control is up to date, or handle it yourself if you’re comfortable doing so.

Outside my office, I have a lot of ornamental grasses. Some people recommend cutting them in the fall, while others say to do it in the spring. I’ve tried both, and it seems they manage either way. Personally, I prefer cutting them in the fall because it makes snow blowing easier and reduces overgrowth.

“Simple tips like these can help you prepare for what could happen when the snow falls.”

Simple tips like these can help you prepare for what could happen when the snow falls. Snow can fall at any time; I’ve seen it as early as August 9th and as late as January. We have trusted professionals we can recommend if you need help.

As summer ends, it’s crucial to finish those projects and get ready for the winter months. Use this time to complete your checklist and tackle those honey-do list items before winter hits. If you have any questions or need further recommendations, feel free to call or email me.
